Express Entry is an online system used by the Canadian government to manage applications for permanent residence in Canada through various economic immigration programs. It is a points-based system that evaluates candidates based on factors such as age, education, work experience, language proficiency, and adaptability. Candidates with the highest Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores are invited to apply for permanent residence through regular draws conducted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). The Express Entry system is designed to facilitate the selection of skilled workers who can contribute to Canada’s economy.
Express Entry consists of three main economic immigration programs:
- Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP): This program is designed for skilled workers with foreign work experience who wish to immigrate to Canada permanently. Candidates are assessed based on factors such as education, work experience, language proficiency, age, arranged employment, and adaptability.
- Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP): The FSTP is intended for skilled tradespersons with experience in specific trades. To qualify, candidates must have a valid job offer in Canada or a certificate of qualification in a skilled trade issued by a Canadian provincial or territorial authority.
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC): The CEC is open to individuals who have gained at least one year of skilled work experience in Canada in the last three years. This program targets temporary foreign workers and international graduates who have adapted to Canadian society and the labor market.
These three programs operate under the Express Entry system and allow individuals to submit their profiles and be considered for permanent residence based on their qualifications and scores in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).
Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is included in Express Entry. The PNP allows Canadian provinces and territories to nominate candidates who meet their specific labor market needs for permanent residence. Provinces and territories have their own immigration streams that are aligned with the Express Entry system. Candidates who are interested in provincial nomination can create an Express Entry profile and indicate their interest in a particular province or territory. If they meet the eligibility requirements of a specific PNP stream and are nominated by that province or territory, they receive additional points in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, which increases their chances of being invited to apply for permanent residence through Express Entry. It’s worth noting that some PNPs have streams that are outside the Express Entry system as well.
Based on the data we have so far, a good CRS Score for the year 2023 should be between 470 and 495.
Your skilled employment history must involve remunerated work, encompassing paid salaries or earned commissions. Regarding part-time employment, you have the flexibility to work fewer or more than 15 hours per week, as long as the total hours add up to a minimum of 1,560 hours. It is also permissible to hold multiple part-time jobs to accumulate the required hours for your application.
